A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new article, designated §17C-24-1, relating to authorizing business establishments and other entities required to provide accessible parking to provide parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients, under certain circumstances.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new article, designated §17C-24-1, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 24.  Handicapped accessible parking for Purple Heart recipients.


§17C-24-1.  Parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients authorized.

Those business establishments and other entities that are required to provide handicapped accessible parking may, on a voluntary basis and at their own expense, allocate one parking space to recipients of the Purple Heart Medal:  Provided, That the business or other entity shall continue to meet parking space requirements of the federal laws governing accessible parking.  Signs saying “We Support Our Veterans” and demarcation lines for the Purple Heart recipient spaces may be in the color purple.

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to authorize, on a voluntary basis, allocation of parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients.
